CLI Actor Commands
Manage and inspect actors from the command line with nexus actors and nexus pull.
The Nexus CLI provides commands for listing actors assigned to your project, inspecting their profiles, pulling actor configuration into your workspace, and validating or normalizing actor profile files.

nexus pull with actors
The standard nexus pull command includes actor configuration automatically:
nexus pull
This generates .nexus/AGENTS.md, .nexus/actors.json, .nexus/actors/*.md, and opencode.json (if the OpenCode adapter is enabled).
Actor assets
To also pull actor avatar images into the workspace:
nexus pull --with-actor-assets
This downloads avatar images to .nexus/actors/assets/ for use in local documentation or tooling.
nexus actors normalize
Normalize actor profile YAML files to the canonical format defined in ADR-0056:
nexus actors normalize [file...]
The normalizer:
- Reorders YAML frontmatter keys to the canonical sequence
- Validates required fields are present
- Ensures consistent formatting (indentation, quoting)
- Reports warnings for deprecated field names
If no files are specified, normalizes all .md files in .nexus/actors/.
# Normalize a single file
nexus actors normalize .nexus/actors/security-architect.md
# Normalize all actor profiles
nexus actors normalize
nexus actors validate
Validate actor profiles against the profile schema without modifying them:
nexus actors validate [file...]
The validator checks:
- Required frontmatter fields are present and correctly typed
- Permission profile is one of the 5 valid values
- Route alias references an existing route in the catalog
- Domain tags are valid
- No invalid field combinations (e.g.,
hiddenmode +opencodeexport target) - Recommended skills reference existing skill IDs
nexus actors validate .nexus/actors/security-architect.md
Output:
VALIDATE: .nexus/actors/security-architect.md
[PASS] Required frontmatter fields present
[PASS] Permission profile: builder
[PASS] Route alias: premium-security-reasoning (active)
[PASS] Domains: 3 valid tags
[PASS] No invalid field combinations
[WARN] Skill 'nexus-git-commit' not found in skill catalog
Result: VALID (1 warning)
Validation strictness
| Flag | Behavior |
|---|---|
--strict | Treat warnings as errors (non-zero exit code) |
--ignore-routes | Skip route alias validation (useful offline) |
nexus actors import
Import actor profiles from local YAML/Markdown files into the Nexus backend:
nexus actors import <file...>
The import command:
- Reads and validates the actor profile file
- Normalizes the profile to canonical format
- Creates or updates the actor in the Nexus backend
- Reports the result
# Import a single actor
nexus actors import my-custom-actor.md
# Import multiple actors
nexus actors import actors/*.md
Imported actors are created in the tenant-wide registry. They still need to be assigned to projects via the dashboard or API before they appear in nexus pull output.
Flags
| Flag | Description |
|---|---|
--dry-run | Validate and normalize without creating/updating in the backend |
--force | Overwrite existing actors with the same slug |
--project <id> | Automatically assign the imported actor to the specified project |
